IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback
I’m feeling stuck in my therapy right now. Is there anything I can do to accelerate the healing process for my trauma, anxiety, depression?
Will I ever be able to stay regulated and feel like I can stay relaxed, sleep better, focus more?
Is medication the only way to calm my anxiety and relieve my depression?
Sometimes we find ourselves stuck in therapy. You aren’t finding the relief from anxiety or depression that brought you to therapy. Your therapist may say that you aren’t quite ready for EMDR because your “window of tolerance” is still fragile. You use all the tools that your therapist gives you, and you’re still finding yourself struggling with staying regulated, focusing and sleeping.
If you’re tired of working hard in therapy or exhausted from the toll of trauma, anxiety or depression, Microcurrent Neurofeedback (MCN) may be an important next step in your healing journey. MCN provides your brain the relaxation it needs to release your nervous system from the fight/flight/freeze we often carry as a result of chronic or overwhelming trauma.
By integrating your therapy with MCN, you’ll find that you are able to accelerate your treatment of anxiety, depression and other trauma-related symptoms. You will be able to stay regulated and focused during your sessions as well as in your work and your life. Clients are able to do the deep work of healing trauma within the supportive context of therapy.
Microcurrent Neurofeedback Provides the Support You Need...
It’s difficult to be ready for therapy when you can’t experience safety and relaxation. Your nervous system needs to be in a relaxed state to process difficult trauma and overwhelming emotions. Many clients want to feel better and are deeply committed to doing the deep work of therapy, but their nervous systems are overwhelmed from longstanding trauma, depression and anxiety. Even EMDR can be difficult to start when your brain is on high alert and not ready to process the targets that will lead to deep healing from trauma.
A study published by The Journal of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (JAANP) highlights the powerful potential of this technology. The September 2023 study, entitled “The effectiveness of microcurrent neurofeedback on depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and quality of life”, identified several highlights:
- Substantial reduction in anxiety and depression were observed by the 10th session.
- Clients reported a significant improvement in their quality of life, confirming the holistic impact of this intervention.
- Remarkable differences were seen in PTSD symptoms after both 10 and 20 treatments
This data provides a testament to the power and promise of IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback (MCN) to make a profound difference in the lives of clients who have experienced this non-invasive intervention.

Getting Stuck in Therapy Happens…
Many clients find themselves stuck in anxiety, depression, and other disruptive symptoms of trauma. It can be a normal part of therapy to find yourself needing something more than what you're currently experiencing in talk therapy or even EMDR. There’s nothing “wrong” or “bad” about your therapeutic experience; you may just need a different level of support to supplement the hard work you’re already doing.
IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback relaxes your brain and invites your nervous system to relax and restore. Clients who haven’t been able to tolerate EMDR or other trauma-informed therapy are able to go deeper in their therapy with a relaxed and regulated nervous system.
Microcurrent Neurofeedback (MCN) offers a powerful, non-invasive way to support traditional therapy. Clients who experience the following symptoms have found MCN to alleviate the intensity of dysregulation and supplement their therapeutic experience:
- Addiction
- ADHD
- Anxiety
- Brain Injuries
- Chronic Fatigue
- Depression
- Insomnia
- Long Covid
- Memory
- Migraines
- Motivation
- PTSD/CPTSD
MCN offers your brain and nervous system a non-invasive method to relax and restore safety in your body. You can begin to experience relief and relaxation in just 6 – 10 sessions.
What does MCN look like for clients?
IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback is a non-invasive and safe approach to relaxing your brain. When you come in for a session, we start with a quick assessment to see where you are and what you notice since the last session. Observations from family and friends also provide important information about the changes they notice.
After our check-in assessment, I place three pairs of MCN leads onto the head and scalp using a gentle adhesive paste. During this time you are invited to relax and breathe. You can’t “do this wrong”! Then we let the microcurrents do their work to clear and restore neural pathways that invite your brain to relax and rest. A brief, micro-signal transmitted feeding back to the brain does all the work. Each session takes about 30-45 minutes, and most clients report feeling a little more relaxed at the end.
After a session, clients are asked to notice any changes in focus, sleep, regulation, appetite, and many other indicators of a relaxed and regulated nervous system. Many clients notice deeper and longer sleep, more focus or less reactivity to stress within the first 3 – 5 sessions.
The power of MCN is also found in the cumulative aspect of its impact on your brain. Each session builds upon the next; most clients find a stability and clarity that enhances their therapy within 15-20 sessions. Some clients come for periodic follow up sessions. You will typically experience more relaxation and regulation within 6 – 10 sessions, which can impact and improve the quality of your therapy.
I have been working with IASIS for the past few years and continue to find that this supplemental treatment deepens and accelerates treatment, especially for trauma symptoms and therapy. Clients are finding that they can tolerate the difficult processing of complex trauma and PTSD through MCN and weekly therapy at enCOURAGE Counseling.
IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback Prepares You For the Healing You Want
When we have been working hard in therapy or have been struggling with the overwhelming effects of anxiety, depression or trauma, it can be such a relief to know that there is a powerful support to be found in IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback. We don’t ask clients to stop their therapy or their meds; MCN is a powerful supplement and support of ongoing therapy.
Does MicroCurrent Neurofeedback hurt? What will I feel?
Hearing that MCN includes attaching small leads to the scalp can sound scary. MCN uses a tiny amount of watts (think 1/1 millionth of the currents from your cell phone!) to send signals through the neural pathways. Clients don’t feel anything. In fact, most clients find that the session lets them relax and breathe. Clients tend to feel incredibly relaxed at the end of every session, which allows them to focus, sleep, regulate over several days between MCN sessions.
Do I have to quit my current therapy? Does IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback replace my current meds?
Absolutely not! In fact, enCOURAGE Counseling offers pricing that allows clients to maintain their current therapy while coming in for MCN sessions. Since MCN is a cumulative effect on the brain and nervous system, clients often notice positive changes within 3 – 6 sessions. Depending on the acuity of your symptoms, many clients can find stability in their regulation, focus, sleep, relaxation in 15 – 20 sessions. For clients wanting to do trauma work, MCN will support a stable window of tolerance, making processing traumatic events “easier” (find a different word).
Do I have to keep coming in for IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback?
MCN has been found to be highly effective within 6 – 10 sessions; however, most clients continue through 15-20 sessions for optimal effect. Because MCN is cumulative in the brain and nervous system, most clients complete sessions with the invitation to come in for “tune ups” when they experience high levels of stress and dysregulation.
Is Microcurrent Neurofeedback the same as Neurofeedback?
Traditional Neurofeedback is commonly linked with mindfulness training. In this method, brainwave data is displayed on a computer screen, and clients work on regulating their brainwaves by interacting with the screen mentally. Unlike other types of neurofeedback, no signals are sent back to the brain during this process. Typically, over 40 sessions are needed, each lasting around 45 minutes to an hour.
On the other hand, with IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback, clients simply sit still for a short period (typically 30 minutes). A small signal is transmitted back to the brain to do all the work. Clients may notice changes that are immediate or felt within a few sessions. IASIS Neurofeedback stands out for its rapid effects, minimal sessions required, and straightforward treatment process.
Finding Hope and Relief
IASIS MCN is a 15-year, proven technique. More than 75,000 patients have benefited from the technologies that are available with IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback.
In my training as a certified MCN/IASIS technician, I have been inspired by the client testimonials of relief from anxiety, depression, suicidality, trauma and the enhanced experience of EMDR and other trauma-informed treatment. I work with clients who have struggled with reactivity, inability to focus or sleep, high levels of disturbance in daily life after suffering from PTSD/CPTSD. As clients continue to supplement their therapy with MCN, they are noticing relief and readiness for deep therapeutic experiences.
As a client, I continue to notice the freedom from anxiety and stress that MCN offers me after every single session. As a practitioner, I’m touched and energized by the experiences of my clients:
“I can focus in math! I noticed the changes are lasting more days after every session I do”.
– Client, 16 years old
“My [partner] notices the calm and balanced emotions I’m expressing after years of reactivity from my trauma. I feel like we are in a new relationship”.
– EMDR Client, Female Adult
